Leadership Programmes

The majority of our Leadership Programmes are design specifically for individual clients so that they link directly to existing leadership competencies, performance management processes and the current needs of the organisation. However, we know that many clients want to have a better understanding of our approach to leadership development so we have developed a series of workshops which we believe represent our work in the area of management and leadership.

Each workshop focuses on the three areas where we believe great leaders need to pay attention:

  • Personal leadership and understanding our own motivations, strengths, styles and areas for development
  • Leading others-whether these are direct reports, peers or other stakeholders who need to be understood and effectively influenced
  • Leading the business-understanding business strategy, the customer/shareholder proposition, critical business differentiators and understanding the external environment

We use 360o surveys, psychometrics, specially written role plays using video and actors and business simulations to enhance and ground the learning.

Leadership & You – 2 days

Successful leaders need a clear and objective understanding of themselves, their motivations & drivers, the strengths which they can leverage and the areas where they need to develop. They also need to understand the impact they have on others so that they can consciously choose the style of leadership which will deliver sustainable high performance.   The workshop provides the tools, insights and feedback individuals need to complete this personal ‘audit’ and gain in depth understanding of themselves as leaders. Each participant receives a detailed and immensely powerful personal report supported by a workbook for development planning with specific, practical ideas for action. At the end of the workshop they also receive a personal feedback on CD them to use going forward.

Outcomes for Participants & Organisations

Each participant receives feedback from the excellent Zenger Folkman 360o survey which allows them to benchmark themselves against the highest performing leaders across a wide range of organisations and objectively assess their current leadership strengths, identify any ‘fatal flaws’ and develop a personal development plan which can be updated and tracked over the coming months using a web based Action Planning tool.

Leading Others – 3  days

Leaders need followers if they are to be successful. This means both members of their own teams and other stakeholders who they need to be able to influence. This workshop focuses on the areas of performance management and influence. We work with participants to builds the skills they need to effectively lead others. Topics include:

  • Setting clear direction and inspiring others to achieve results
  • Agreeing, monitoring  and reviewing individual targets and goals
  • Handling poor performance and difficult conversations
  • Coaching for high performance
  • Developing a wide range of influencing styles and strategies  which work for different people and situations

Throughout the 3 days we will practice those skills which are the building blocks of effective people management; active listening, asking great questions, giving feedback and understanding the motivation and needs of others. As part of the workshop we will use a psychometric such as MBTI or Insights (link to the page on these 2 psychometrics) to help leaders to understand how to adapt their style to be effective with individuals when they are communicating direction, setting targets, coaching or influencing.

Outcomes for Participants & Organisations

Recent Gallup research shows that one of the key factors in business performance and employee engagement is for each person to have a clear understanding of direction and their part in achieving results. Each participant will practice giving this direction for their teams and practice the delivery of the message in a way that is both clear and motivating. Participants develop real confidence and skills in performance management. They will gain hands-on experience in tackling difficult conversations and come away with the core skills needed in managing others and a personal action plan to put those skills into practice. As a result they will be more able to tackle poor performance issues in their team and use effective coaching skills to improve the performance of the whole team. They will focus on specific influencing situations that they are currently facing in the business and develop both the skills and tactical plans to improve their influence on return to work.

Leading the Business – 2 days

  • The shareholder/customer value proposition  and identifying critical differentiators
  • Understanding the external environment using PESTEL
  • What drives ROCE in the business sector?
  • Competitive forces today and in the future. Sources of sustainable competitive advantage
  • Business simulation to understand the impact of decisions on overall performance

Outcomes for Participants & Organisations

Participants become more confident in talking about business strategy and plans whether it is with employees, clients or other business partners. Leaders develop their ability to make decisions that support the business strategy having had t e opportunity to see the effect of  day-to-day decisions  on bottom line performance.
